Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Southern Lakes District in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,085 people or 17.0%)
  • Construction (1,656 people or 13.5%)
  • Retail Trade (1,247 people or 10.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 4,988 people in total or 40.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Central Coast Council area employed 17.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 11.5% in Construction; and 10.2% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the Southern Lakes District and Central Coast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (13.5% compared to 11.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (4.8% compared to 6.0%)
