Location and boundaries

Gosford East Ward is bounded by The Ridgeway and Booralie Road in the north, the locality of Wamberal and the Tasman Sea in the east, Brisbane Water in the south and south-west, and Hylton Moore Park, Newcastle Street, Coburg Street, Lynette Crescent, Grass Tree Hill Reserve and Toomeys Road in the north-west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1820s, with land used mainly for timber-getting, farming and orcharding. Some growth took place during the late 1800s, aided by improved access, ship building industries, and the popularity of coastal and waterway areas for tourism. Significant development did not occur until the 1960s, with rapid growth during the 1970s and 1980s. The population increased from the early 1990s as new dwellings were added to the area, with the greatest growth between 1991 and 2001.

Gosford East Ward includes residential and holiday areas, rural and rural-residential areas, national park, an army reserve depot, and some commercial and industrial land use.
