Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Kariong in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (564 people or 16.8%)
  • Construction (367 people or 10.9%)
  • Retail Trade (367 people or 10.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,298 people in total or 38.6% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Central Coast Council area employed 17.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 11.5% in Construction; and 10.2% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Kariong and Central Coast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in wholesale trade (3.4% compared to 2.2%)
