Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of people in Central Coast NSW compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a higher proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 7.0% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 5.2% for Greater Sydney.

The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Central Coast Council area and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 5 to 9 (6.3% compared to 3.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (23.7% compared to 30.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (42.3% compared to 48.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (15.2% compared to 18.4%)

Emerging groups

The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2016 and 2021 in Central Coast Council area were in the age groups:
