Killarney Vale - Tumbi Umbi is bounded by Tuggerah Lake in the north, Saltwater Creek, McLean Street, Kathleen White Crescent, McColl Park, Castlereagh Crescent, Eastern Road, Sherry Street and the suburb of Bateau Bay in the east, the suburbs of Forresters Beach and Wamberal, Tanderra Road, Tumbi Road, The Ridgeway and Cutrock Road in the south, and the locality of Ourimbah, Brush Road, the localities of Glenning Valley and Berkeley Vale, Wyong Road and Tumbi Umbi Creek in the west.

Name origin

Killarney Vale is named after the lakes of Killarney in Ireland. Tumbi Umbi is thought to be named from an Aboriginal word meaning "place of big trees".

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the late 1800s, with land used mainly for farming and market gardening. Some growth took place in the 1920s when land was subdivided in Killarney Vale. Significant development did not occur until the post-war years. Rapid growth took place during the 1970s and 1980s. The population increased gradually between 1991 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.

Killarney Vale - Tumbi Umbi includes residential areas in the east, rural and rural-residential areas in the south and west, and commercial areas along Wyong Road. The area is home to the Glengara Retirement Village.
