Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in the Central North District in 2021 compared to the Southern District shows that there was a lower proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 23.7% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 14.7% were one-parent families, compared with 26.4% and 14.6% respectively for the Southern District.

There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 29.5% compared to 25.2% in the Southern District while the proportion of couples without children was 24.0% compared to 25.5% in the Southern District.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Central North District increased by 5,129 between 2001 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in the Central North District between 2001 and 2021 were:
