The size of the City of Onkaparinga's labour force in 2016 was 81,117, of which 31,251 were employed part-time and 42,565 were full time workers.

Analysis of the employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in the City of Onkaparinga in 2016 compared to Greater Adelaide shows that there was a similar proportion in employment, as well as a similar proportion unemployed. Overall, 92.3% of the labour force was employed (55.2% of the population aged 15+), and 7.7% unemployed (4.6% of the population aged 15+), compared with 92.3% and 7.7% respectively for Greater Adelaide.
