There were more male professionals in the City of Yarra in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Yarra in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (12,565 males or 44.1%)
  • Managers (5,477 males or 19.2%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (2,742 males or 9.6%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 20,784 males in total or 73.0% of the employed male resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 23.6% in Professionals; 16.1% in Managers; and 19.3% in Technicians and Trades Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Yarra and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed as Professionals (44.1% compared to 23.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (9.6% compared to 19.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (2.4% compared to 9.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Labourers (4.2% compared to 9.8%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in City of Yarra increased by 3,146 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Yarra were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+2,167 males)
  • Managers (+768 males)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+206 males)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+117 males)
