Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Yarra in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (5,809 males or 20.4%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,520 males or 8.8%)
  • Construction (2,369 males or 8.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 10,698 males in total or 37.5% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 10.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 5.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 15.2% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Yarra and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (20.4% compared to 10.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (8.3% compared to 15.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in manufacturing (4.4% compared to 9.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (3.0% compared to 7.2%)

  • Public Administration and Safety (+445 males)
