Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of people in the City of Yarra compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a lower proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 3.9% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 5.5% for Greater Melbourne.

The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in the City of Yarra and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 85 and over (59.8% compared to 53.7%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (34.5% compared to 32.2%)
