Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Yarra in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (5,407 females or 18.8%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (4,964 females or 17.3%)
  • Education and Training (3,295 females or 11.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 13,666 females in total or 47.6% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 21.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 13.0% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the City of Yarra and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (17.3% compared to 8.8%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in public administration and safety (7.5% compared to 5.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (18.8% compared to 21.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in retail trade (8.5% compared to 10.7%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in City of Yarra increased by 3,250 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Yarra were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,118 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+1,020 females)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+507 females)
  • Construction (+176 females)
