In 2021, there were more people born in India working as professionals in Central Coast NSW than any other occupation.

Central Coast NSW's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which people born overseas (who are residents of Central Coast NSW) work. The work destination may be in the local area or elsewhere.

The type of work done by migrant communities is influenced by their Age StuctureQualifications and migration stream. Many of Australia's recent migrants are skilled arrivals who fill identified skill gaps in particular occupation groups. Some older overseas-born communities may be retired, or otherwise not in the workforce. Only those who are employed are included in this topic.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the population born in India in Central Coast Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (625 people or 39.1%)
  • Managers (195 people or 12.2%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (190 people or 11.9%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,010 people in total or 63.1% of the employed population born in India.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 40.3% in Professionals; 14.1% in Managers; and 6.6% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population born in India in Central Coast Council area and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of people employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (11.9% compared to 6.6%)
  • A larger percentage of people employed as Labourers (6.4% compared to 4.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of people employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (7.1% compared to 12.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of people employed as Managers (12.2% compared to 14.1%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed population born in India in Central Coast Council area increased by 732 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of the population born in India between 2016 and 2021 in Central Coast Council area were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+271 persons)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+101 persons)
  • Managers (+96 persons)
  • Machinery Operators And Drivers (+90 persons)
