Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of Rockhampton in 2021 compared to Regional QLD shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 19.7% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 17.4% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.5% and 19.6% respectively for Regional QLD.
The major differences between the female age structure of Rockhampton and Regional QLD were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 5 to 9 (6.8% compared to 6.0%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (6.9% compared to 6.2%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (4.1% compared to 5.2%)

From 2006 to 2021, Rockhampton's female population increased by 4,908 people (13.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.84% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 60 to 64 (+862 females)
- 25 to 29 (+627 females)
- 65 to 69 (+591 females)
- 55 to 59 (+553 females)
