The size of Rockhampton's labour force needing assistance in 2011 was 406, of which 173 were employed part-time and 117 were full time workers.

Analysis of the people employment status (as a percentage of the labour force) in Rockhampton in 2011 compared to Brisbane SD shows that there was a higher proportion in employment, and a lower proportion unemployed. Overall, 86.7% of the labour force needing assistance was employed (7.7% of the people population aged 15+), and 13.3% unemployed (1.2% of the people population aged 15+), compared with 84.3% and 15.7% respectively for Brisbane SD.

The labour force participation rate refers to the proportion of the population over 15 years of age that was employed or actively looking for work.
