Location and boundaries

Wandal & West Rockhampton is bounded by the Fitzroy River in the north, North Street, Pennycuick Street, Clarke Street, Denham Street, Ann Street, Penlington Street, Wentworth Terrace and Diggers Rugby Park in the east, Yeppen Yeppen Lagoon, Murray Lagoon, Rockhampton Airport and Old Nine Mile Road in the south, and Lion Creek in the north.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1860s. Population was minimal until the late 1800s and early 1900s. Significant development occurred during the post-war years. The population declined slightly between 1991 and 2006, a result of little change in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling. The population and dwelling stock were relatively stable between 2006 and 2011.
