Location and boundaries

The Range is located to the west of the Rockhampton CBD. The Range is bounded by North Street and Murray Street in the north, Archer Street, Canning Street, Davis Street, Penlington Street and Upper Dawson Road in the east, Yeppen Yeppen Lagoon in the south, and the Botanic Gardens, Wentworth Terrace, Penlington Street, Ann Street, Denham Street, Clarke Street and Pennycuick Street in the west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for grazing. Growth took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Significant development occurred during the post-war years. The population declined slightly between 1991 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011.

The Range is an established residential area.

Major features of the area include Rockhampton Hospital, Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Hillcrest Rockhampton Private Hospital, Central Queensland Institute of TAFE (Rockhampton Campus), Diggers Park, Georgeson Oval, Kerr Park, Voss Park, The Rockhampton Grammar School (Girls and Boys Campuses), The Cathedral College and one other school.
