In 2011, 31.1% of recent overseas arrivals in Rockhampton attended an educational institution.

Dominant groups

Analysis of recent overseas arrivals attending educational institutions in Rockhampton in 2011 compared to Brisbane SD shows that there was a higher proportion attending primary school, a lower proportion attending secondary school, and a lower proportion engaged in tertiary level education.

Overall, 11.6% of recent overseas arrivals were attending primary school, 6.2% of the population were attending secondary institutions, and 10.8% were learning at a tertiary level, compared with 10.2%, 6.7% and 18.0% respectively for Brisbane SD.

The major differences between the share of the recent overseas arriving population attending learning institutions in Rockhampton and Brisbane SD were:

  • A larger percentage of people not attending any educational institutions (64.3% compared to 57.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of people attending University (7.3% compared to 13.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of people attending TAFE (3.5% compared to 5.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of people attending 'other' tertiary institutions (1.2% compared to 2.6%)
