Location and boundaries

Berserker & The Common is located on the northern side of the Fitzroy River from the Rockhampton CBD. Berserker & The Common is bounded by Simpson Street and Adair Street in the north, Frenchmans Creek in the east, the Fitzroy River in the south, and Moores Creek in the west.

Name origin

Berserker is named after the Berserker Range, which was named after the Norse hero "Baresark" who fought without armour in the Norwegian sagas.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for grazing. Some growth took place in the 1920s and 1930s. Significant development occurred during the post-war years. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, and then increased slightly between 2001 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area and the average number of persons living in each dwelling increased.

Berserker & The Common is a residential and parkland area, with some commercial and special use areas.

Major features of the area include Northside Plaza, Kmart Plaza, Callaghan Park Racecourse, Rockhampton Cricket Grounds, Benoke Park, Cyril Connell Fields, Elizabeth Park, McLeod Park, Norbridge Park, Ryan Park, Stapleton Park, Woods Park, the Fitzroy River and two schools.
