Rockhampton

Low income households - Number of cars per household

In Rockhampton, 20.0% of people in low income households had access to two or more motor vehicles.

The ability of the population to access services and employment is strongly influenced by access to transport. The number of motor vehicles per household in Rockhampton quantifies access to private transport and will be influenced by Age Structure and Household Type, which determine the number of adults present; access to public transport, distance to shops, services, employment and education.

This topic is restricted to those in low income households. Low incomes may be associated with less transport options and lack of access to a car. However, this may not be a concern in all areas if public transport is available. Local governments may need to provide transport services or advocate for transport services to low income households where there are few other transport options.

To further build the story of low income households in Rockhampton, car ownership data should be looked at in conjunction with Age Structure and Household Type.

Derived from the Census question:

'How many registered motor vehicles owned or used by residents of this dwelling were garaged or parked at or near this dwelling on the night of Tuesday, 9 August 2016?'
