In 2021, the largest age group in Rockhampton was 10 to 14 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2006 was 60 to 64 year olds, increasing by 731 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Rockhampton in 2021 compared to Regional QLD shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 20.9% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 15.9% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.1% and 18.7% respectively for Regional QLD.

The major differences between the male age structure of Rockhampton and Regional QLD were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 0 to 4 (6.5% compared to 5.7%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 15 to 19 (6.9% compared to 6.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (4.3% compared to 5.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 75 to 79 (2.9% compared to 3.7%)

Emerging groups

From 2006 to 2021, Rockhampton's male population increased by 4,754 people (13.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.84% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
