Dominant groups

Analysis of the service age groups of the Southern Lakes District in 2021 compared to the Wyong District shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) as well as a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 23.6% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 25.4% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 22.5% and 23.4% respectively for the Wyong District.

The major differences between the age structure of the Southern Lakes District and the Wyong District were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Frail aged' (2.7% compared to 1.7%)
  • A larger percentage of 'Primary schoolers' (9.6% compared to 8.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Older workers & pre-retirees' (12.2% compared to 13.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Tertiary education & independence' (7.9% compared to 9.4%)
