Dominant groups

Analysis of the service age groups of Wyong, Warnervale and Gorokan in 2021 compared to the Valleys District shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 24.0% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 24.0% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 21.6% and 25.6% respectively for the Valleys District.

The major differences between the age structure of Wyong, Warnervale and Gorokan and the Valleys District were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Young workforce' (12.4% compared to 7.8%)
  • A larger percentage of 'Babies and pre-schoolers' (6.5% compared to 3.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Older workers & pre-retirees' (12.1% compared to 16.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Empty nesters and retirees' (10.4% compared to 13.9%)

Emerging groups

From 2011 to 2021, Wyong, Warnervale and Gorokan's population increased by 10,732 people (23.1%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.1% per year over the period.

The largest changes in the age structure in this area between 2011 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • Young workforce (25 to 34) (+2,124 people)
