Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Northern Lakes District in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Technicians and Trades Workers (1,199 people or 17.9%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (954 people or 14.3%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (863 people or 12.9%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 3,016 people in total or 45.1% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Yattalunga - Saratoga - Davistown employed 17.3% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 11.5% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 13.3% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the Northern Lakes District and Yattalunga - Saratoga - Davistown were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (8.9% compared to 3.6%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (11.9% compared to 7.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (12.4% compared to 22.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (9.9% compared to 13.2%)

The number of employed people in Northern Lakes District increased by 1,490 between 2006 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2006 and 2021 in the Northern Lakes District were for those employed as:
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+370 persons)
- Professionals (+263 persons)
- Managers (+182 persons)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+168 persons)
