Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Northern Lakes District in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Technicians and Trades Workers (1,199 people or 17.9%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (954 people or 14.3%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (863 people or 12.9%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 3,016 people in total or 45.1% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, The Entrance - The Entrance North employed 14.9% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 14.4% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 11.3% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the Northern Lakes District and The Entrance - The Entrance North were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (17.9% compared to 14.9%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (8.9% compared to 7.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (12.4% compared to 16.3%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (9.9% compared to 12.1%)

The number of employed people in Northern Lakes District increased by 391 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in the Northern Lakes District were for those employed as:
- Managers (+147 persons)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+114 persons)
- Professionals (+92 persons)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (+65 persons)
