This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Mountains's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Mountains in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Managers (407 people or 21.9%)
- Professionals (318 people or 17.1%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (281 people or 15.1%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,006 people in total or 54.2% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, the Wyong District employed 10.6% in Managers; 16.0% in Professionals; and 14.4% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Mountains and the Wyong District were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Managers (21.9% compared to 10.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (9.4% compared to 14.2%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Sales Workers (5.6% compared to 9.0%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (10.6% compared to 13.2%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Mountains increased by 84 between 2016 and 2021.
There were no major differences in Mountains between 2016 and 2021.
