The Mountains District's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating the Mountains District's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Mountains District in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (184 females or 21.4%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (158 females or 18.4%)
- Managers (143 females or 16.6%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 485 females in total or 56.4% of the employed female resident population.
In comparison, Long Jetty - Shelly Beach - Toowoon Bay - Blue Bay employed 24.4% in Professionals; 20.2% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 10.1% in Managers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the Mountains District and Long Jetty - Shelly Beach - Toowoon Bay - Blue Bay were:
- A larger percentage of females employed as Managers (16.6% compared to 10.1%)
- A larger percentage of females employed as Labourers (9.4% compared to 5.3%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (15.6% compared to 21.2%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Sales Workers (7.4% compared to 11.7%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in Mountains District increased by 41 between 2016 and 2021.
There were no major differences in the Mountains District between 2016 and 2021.
