The type of work done by migrant communities is influenced by their age structure, qualifications and migration stream. Many of Australia's recent migrants are skilled arrivals who fill identified skill gaps in particular occupation groups. Some older non-English speaking communities may be retired, or otherwise not in the workforce. Only those who are employed are included in this topic.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the Italian speaking resident population in Central Coast Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Managers (67 people or 18.7%)
- Professionals (64 people or 17.9%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (50 people or 14.0%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 181 people in total or 50.6% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 17.8% in Managers; 22.1% in Professionals; and 16.0% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the Italian speaking population of Central Coast Council area and Greater Sydney were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Labourers (10.9% compared to 6.4%)
- A larger percentage of people employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (8.1% compared to 4.5%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Professionals (17.9% compared to 22.1%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Sales Workers (7.0% compared to 9.5%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed Italian speakers in Central Coast Council area decreased by 96 between 2016 and 2021.
There were no major changes for Central Coast Council area between 2016 and 2021.
