Mountains and Valleys's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.
When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Mountains and Valleys in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (372 females or 19.3%)
- Education and Training (246 females or 12.8%)
- Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (168 females or 8.7%)
In combination, these three industries employed 786 females in total or 40.9% of the total employed female resident population.
In comparison, Central Coast Council area employed 28.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.1% in Education and Training; and 0.6% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Mountains and Valleys and Central Coast Council area were:
- A larger percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (8.7% compared to 0.6%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in arts and recreation services (3.0% compared to 1.3%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (19.3% compared to 28.2%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in retail trade (8.4% compared to 11.9%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in Mountains and Valleys increased by 286 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest change in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2011 and 2021 in Mountains and Valleys was for those employed in:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+120 females)
