More Valleys male residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

Valleys's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Valleys in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (231 males or 20.2%)
  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (100 males or 8.7%)
  • Manufacturing (88 males or 7.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 419 males in total or 36.6% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Gosford City employed 18.3% in Construction; 1.1% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; and 7.2% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Valleys and Gosford City were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (8.7% compared to 1.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in other services (6.2% compared to 3.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (4.8% compared to 8.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in retail trade (5.2% compared to 8.2%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Valleys increased by 228 between 2006 and 2021.

The largest change in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2006 and 2021 in Valleys was for those employed in:

  • Construction (+77 males)
