This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.
When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Valleys District in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (216 females or 20.8%)
- Education and Training (152 females or 14.6%)
- Retail Trade (93 females or 9.0%)
In combination, these three industries employed 461 females in total or 44.4% of the total employed female resident population.
In comparison, Watanobbi employed 30.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.5% in Education and Training; and 11.1% in Retail Trade.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the Valleys District and Watanobbi were:
- A larger percentage of females employed in education and training (14.6% compared to 8.5%)
- A larger percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (6.0% compared to 0.7%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (20.8% compared to 30.6%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed in retail trade (9.0% compared to 11.1%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in Valleys District increased by 84 between 2016 and 2021.
There were no major differences in the Valleys District between 2016 and 2021.
