Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Coastal District in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,354 females or 26.2%)
  • Education and Training (1,392 females or 15.5%)
  • Retail Trade (848 females or 9.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 4,594 females in total or 51.2% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Central Coast Council area employed 28.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.1% in Education and Training; and 11.9% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the Coastal District and Central Coast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in education and training (15.5% compared to 12.1%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (7.8% compared to 5.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in retail trade (9.4% compared to 11.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (26.2% compared to 28.2%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Coastal District increased by 916 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the Coastal District were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+331 females)
  • Education and Training (+173 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+130 females)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+90 females)
