Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of the Valleys District in 2021 compared to Central Coast Council area shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.0% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 17.9% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.1% and 22.1% respectively for Central Coast Council area.

The major differences between the age structure of the Valleys District and Central Coast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 50 to 54 (8.5% compared to 6.4%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 15 to 19 (7.8% compared to 5.9%)
