In 2021, the largest age group in the Coastal District was 10 to 14 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2006 was 70 to 74 year olds, increasing by 573 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of the Coastal District in 2021 compared to Central Coast Council area shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 20.3% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.2% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 19.2% and 20.6% respectively for Central Coast Council area.

The major differences between the male age structure of the Coastal District and Central Coast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 10 to 14 (8.0% compared to 6.7%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 15 to 19 (7.3% compared to 6.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (4.2% compared to 5.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (4.2% compared to 5.5%)

Emerging groups

From 2006 to 2021, Coastal District's male population increased by 2,777 people (18.0%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.11% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 70 to 74 (+573 males)
  • 65 to 69 (+539 males)
  • 60 to 64 (+506 males)
  • 75 to 79 (+292 males)
