In 2021, the largest age group in the Coastal District was 45 to 49 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2001 was 60 to 64 year olds, increasing by 688 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of the Coastal District in 2021 compared to The Entrance - The Entrance North shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 18.5% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.6% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 12.6% and 28.3% respectively for The Entrance - The Entrance North.

The major differences between the female age structure of the Coastal District and The Entrance - The Entrance North were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 10 to 14 (7.2% compared to 4.5%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 15 to 19 (6.6% compared to 4.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (5.3% compared to 7.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 65 to 69 (6.6% compared to 8.6%)

Emerging groups

From 2001 to 2021, Coastal District's female population increased by 3,757 people (24.8%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.12% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2001 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 60 to 64 (+688 females)
  • 65 to 69 (+645 females)
  • 55 to 59 (+596 females)
  • 50 to 54 (+454 females)
