In 2021, the largest age group in the Coastal District was 10 to 14 year olds. The group that changed the most since 1996 was 55 to 59 year olds, increasing by 1,429 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of the Coastal District in 2021 compared to The Entrance - The Entrance North shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 19.5% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 12.6% and 28.1% respectively for The Entrance - The Entrance North.

The major differences between the age structure of the Coastal District and The Entrance - The Entrance North were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 10 to 14 (7.6% compared to 4.3%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 15 to 19 (7.0% compared to 4.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (6.2% compared to 8.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (5.6% compared to 7.8%)

Emerging groups

From 1996 to 2021, Coastal District's population increased by 9,973 people (36.8%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.26% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 1996 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 55 to 59 (+1,429 persons)
  • 60 to 64 (+1,417 persons)
  • 50 to 54 (+1,342 persons)
