Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of the Coastal District in 2021 compared to The Entrance - The Entrance North shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 19.5% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 12.6% and 28.1% respectively for The Entrance - The Entrance North.
The major differences between the age structure of the Coastal District and The Entrance - The Entrance North were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 10 to 14 (7.6% compared to 4.3%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 15 to 19 (7.0% compared to 4.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (6.2% compared to 8.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (5.6% compared to 7.8%)
Emerging groups
From 1996 to 2021, Coastal District's population increased by 9,973 people (36.8%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.26% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 1996 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 55 to 59 (+1,429 persons)
- 60 to 64 (+1,417 persons)
- 50 to 54 (+1,342 persons)
- 65 to 69 (+1,099 persons)
