In 2021, the largest age group in the Valleys District was 50 to 54 year olds. The group that changed the most since 1991 was 50 to 54 year olds, increasing by 127 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of the Valleys District in 2021 compared to Kariong shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 15.3% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 18.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 20.9% and 11.1% respectively for Kariong.

The major differences between the female age structure of the Valleys District and Kariong were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (5.4% compared to 2.8%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 65 to 69 (6.2% compared to 3.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 0 to 4 (3.2% compared to 6.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (3.9% compared to 6.0%)

Emerging groups

From 1991 to 2021, Valleys District's female population increased by 784 people (57.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.54% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 1991 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 50 to 54 (+127 females)
  • 55 to 59 (+113 females)
  • 60 to 64 (+101 females)
