Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of the Valleys District in 2021 compared to Kariong shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 15.3% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 18.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 20.9% and 11.1% respectively for Kariong.
The major differences between the female age structure of the Valleys District and Kariong were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (5.4% compared to 2.8%)
- A larger percentage of females aged 65 to 69 (6.2% compared to 3.8%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 0 to 4 (3.2% compared to 6.3%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (3.9% compared to 6.0%)
Emerging groups
From 1991 to 2021, Valleys District's female population increased by 784 people (57.9%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.54% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 1991 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 50 to 54 (+127 females)
- 55 to 59 (+113 females)
- 60 to 64 (+101 females)
- 65 to 69 (+93 females)
