Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of Kariong in 2021 compared to Hamlyn Terrace shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 21.9% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 10.5% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 22.5% and 18.5% respectively for Hamlyn Terrace.
The major differences between the age structure of Kariong and Hamlyn Terrace were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (5.8% compared to 3.7%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 55 to 59 (6.6% compared to 4.7%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (1.1% compared to 3.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (1.6% compared to 3.9%)

From 1991 to 2021, Kariong's population increased by 3,229 people (99.5%). This represents an average annual population change of 2.33% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 1991 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 15 to 19 (+381 persons)
- 50 to 54 (+372 persons)
- 55 to 59 (+361 persons)
- 45 to 49 (+327 persons)
