In 2021, the largest age group in the Coastal District was 10 to 14 year olds. The group that changed the most since 1991 was 50 to 54 year olds, increasing by 854 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of the Coastal District in 2021 compared to Berkeley Vale - Chittaway Bay - Glenning Valley shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 20.5% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.0% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 21.0% and 15.8% respectively for Berkeley Vale - Chittaway Bay - Glenning Valley.

The major differences between the male age structure of the Coastal District and Berkeley Vale - Chittaway Bay - Glenning Valley were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 50 to 54 (7.3% compared to 5.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (4.2% compared to 6.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (4.2% compared to 6.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 0 to 4 (5.4% compared to 7.0%)

Emerging groups

From 1991 to 2021, Coastal District's male population increased by 6,470 people (55.3%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.48% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 1991 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 50 to 54 (+854 males)
  • 55 to 59 (+768 males)
  • 60 to 64 (+713 males)
  • 45 to 49 (+627 males)
