In 2021, the largest age group in the Coastal District was 45 to 49 year olds. The group that changed the most since 1996 was 55 to 59 year olds, increasing by 745 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of the Coastal District in 2021 compared to Central Coast Council area shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 18.5% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.6% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.9% and 23.5% respectively for Central Coast Council area.

The major differences between the female age structure of the Coastal District and Central Coast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 10 to 14 (7.2% compared to 6.0%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 15 to 19 (6.6% compared to 5.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 85 and over (1.7% compared to 3.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (4.1% compared to 5.2%)

Emerging groups

From 1996 to 2021, Coastal District's female population increased by 5,172 people (37.7%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.29% per year over the period.

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 1996 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 55 to 59 (+745 females)
  • 60 to 64 (+742 females)
  • 50 to 54 (+710 females)
  • 65 to 69 (+594 females)
