In 2021, the largest age group in Mountains and Valleys was 50 to 54 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2001 was 65 to 69 year olds, increasing by 320 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Mountains and Valleys in 2021 compared to Blue Haven shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 15.6% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 19.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 23.6% and 13.2% respectively for Blue Haven.

The major differences between the age structure of Mountains and Valleys and Blue Haven were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (8.2% compared to 4.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (6.7% compared to 3.4%)
  • A larger percentage of persons aged 55 to 59 (8.6% compared to 5.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 0 to 4 (4.0% compared to 7.8%)

Emerging groups

From 2001 to 2021, Mountains and Valleys's population increased by 655 people (8.8%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.42% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2001 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 65 to 69 (+320 persons)
  • 60 to 64 (+293 persons)
  • 40 to 44 (-259 persons)
  • 70 to 74 (+201 persons)
