Ancestry defines the cultural association and ethnic background of an individual going back three generations. Ancestry is a good measure of the total size of cultural groups in Wyong, Warnervale and Gorokan regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Wyong, Warnervale and Gorokan in 2021 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:
- Australian (23,174 people or 40.5%)
- English (23,075 people or 40.3%)
- Irish (5,615 people or 9.8%)
- Scottish (5,332 people or 9.3%)
- Australian Aboriginal (3,729 people or 6.5%)
In combination these five ancestries account for 60,925 responses in total, or 106.38% of all responses.
The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Wyong, Warnervale and Gorokan and New South Wales were:
- A larger percentage of people with Australian ancestry (40.5% compared to 28.6%)
- A larger percentage of people with English ancestry (40.3% compared to 29.8%)
