Introduction

In 2021, there were 26,174 people aged 18 to 24 years living in Central Coast NSW.

Age groups are probably the most important determinants of demographic characteristics in society. People tend to go through similar life stages at similar ages in life. For instance, attending school, finding a partner, renting or purchasing a home, having children, caring for a disabled family member, retiring, downsizing and entering cared accommodation – all have a strong age-based component.

This profile looks at the characteristics of people aged 18 to 24 years in Central Coast Council area with options to compare over time, as well as comparison options. The options to compare are:

For example “Couple with children” could indicate that the 18-24 year old is a child still living at home with their parents, or that they have had children of their own and are living independently. Care should be taken in interpreting household data for 18-24 year olds, and users may need to look at a number of topics to see the role and function of the area concerned for this age group.
