People form different types of households at different stages in life, so this varies enormously by age group in all areas. This topic is useful, however, in comparing the types of households formed by each age group relative to the benchmark. Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of people aged 55 to 64 years in Central Coast NSW in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney, shows that there was a lower proportion of people aged 55 to 64 years in couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 25.5% of people aged 55 to 64 years were in couple families with child(ren), and 11.3% were in one-parent families, compared with 39.9% and 10.9% respectively for Greater Sydney.
There was a higher proportion of people aged 55 to 64 years in lone person households and a higher proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of people aged 55 to 64 years in lone person households was 16.6% compared to 13.4% in Greater Sydney while the proportion of couples without children was 38.2% compared to 28.8% in Greater Sydney.
Emerging groups
The number of people aged 55 to 64 years in households in Central Coast Council area increased by 3,262 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in family/household types for people aged 55 to 64 years in Central Coast Council area between 2016 and 2021 were:
- Couples with children (+908 persons)
- Lone person (+851 persons)
- One parent families (+829 persons)
- Couples without children (+738 persons)
