The Number of Bedrooms in a dwelling is an indicator of the size of dwellings, and when combined with Dwelling Type information, provides insight into the role Central Coast NSW plays in the housing market for different age groups.
For example, where people aged 18 to 24 are in the workforce, one bedroom and bedsitters may be dominant. Upgrader areas housing families could have larger separate dwellings, while smaller units may be common for downsizers among older migrant communities.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the number of bedrooms in dwellings for people aged 12 to 24 years in Central Coast NSW in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney, shows that there was a lower proportion of people aged 12 to 24 years in dwellings with 2 bedrooms or less, and a higher proportion of dwellings with 4 or more bedrooms.
Overall, 7.6% of people aged 12 to 24 years were in dwellings with 2 bedrooms or less, and 59.4% in 4 or more bedroom dwellings, compared with 14.6% and 53.7% for Greater Sydney respectively.
The major differences between the number of bedrooms per dwelling people aged 12 to 24 years in Central Coast NSW and Greater Sydney were:
- A larger percentage of people in 4 bedrooms (39.1% compared to 34.5%)
- A larger percentage of people in 3 bedrooms (28.4% compared to 27.1%)
- A smaller percentage of people in 2 bedrooms (6.7% compared to 12.3%)
- A smaller percentage of people in 0 or 1 bedrooms (0.9% compared to 2.3%)

The largest changes in the number of bedrooms per dwelling for people aged 12 to 24 years in Central Coast NSW between 2016 and 2021 were:
