There were more female professionals in the City of Yarra in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in City of Yarra in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (13,658 females or 47.6%)
  • Managers (4,822 females or 16.8%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (3,644 females or 12.7%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 22,124 females in total or 77.1% of the employed female resident population.

In comparison, Carlton North - Princes Hill employed 48.8% in Professionals; 14.5% in Managers; and 12.6% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of the City of Yarra and Carlton North - Princes Hill were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed as Managers (16.8% compared to 14.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Professionals (47.6% compared to 48.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (9.5% compared to 10.7%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in City of Yarra increased by 3,239 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of female residents between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Yarra were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+2,296 females)
  • Managers (+1,016 females)
  • Sales Workers (-291 females)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+89 females)
