Analysis of the household/family types in the City of Yarra in 2021 compared to IMP region shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 14.5% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 6.0% were one-parent families, compared with 12.1% and 5.2% respectively for IMP region.
There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 35.1% compared to 38.9% in IMP region while the proportion of couples without children was 26.8% compared to 25.6% in IMP region.

The number of households in City of Yarra increased by 11,185 between 2006 and 2021.
The largest changes in family/household types in the City of Yarra between 2006 and 2021 were:
