In 2021, there were 5,686 separate houses in the area, 21,769 medium density dwellings, and 21,958 high density dwellings.
Analysis of the types of dwellings in the City of Yarra in 2021 shows that 11.4% of all dwellings were separate houses; 43.6% were medium density dwellings, and 44.0% were in high density dwellings, compared with 33.1%, 46.3%, and 20.4% in the Fairfield - Alphington respectively.
In 2021, a total of 85.5% of the dwellings in the City of Yarra were occupied on Census night, compared to 92.7% in Fairfield - Alphington. The proportion of unoccupied dwellings was 14.3%, which is larger compared to that found in Fairfield - Alphington (7.1%).
The total number of dwellings in the City of Yarra increased by 21,140 between 1991 and 2021.
