Occupation of employment
There were more managers in Mountains and Valleys in 2016 than any other occupation.
Mountains and Valleys's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Mountains and Valleys's socio-economic status and skill base.

'In the main job held last week, what was the person's occupation?' and 'What are the main tasks that the person himself/herself usually performs in that occupation?'

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Mountains and Valleys in 2016 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Managers (834 people or 21.3%)
- Professionals (655 people or 16.8%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (607 people or 15.5%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 2,096 people in total or 53.6% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Kincumber employed 10.5% in Managers; 19.5% in Professionals; and 16.0% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Mountains and Valleys and Kincumber were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Managers (21.3% compared to 10.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (8.7% compared to 13.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Sales Workers (7.5% compared to 10.9%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (16.8% compared to 19.5%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in Mountains and Valleys increased by 278 between 2011 and 2016.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2011 and 2016 in Mountains and Valleys were for those employed as:
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+73 persons)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+57 persons)
