Ancestry
The three largest ancestries in Central Coast Council area in 2021 were English, Australian and Irish.
Ancestry defines the cultural association and ethnic background of an individual going back three generations. Ancestry is a good measure of the total size of cultural groups in Central Coast Council area regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Central Coast Council area in 2021 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:
- English (147,753 people or 42.6%)
- Australian (138,273 people or 39.9%)
- Irish (41,757 people or 12.0%)
- Scottish (36,360 people or 10.5%)
- Australian Aboriginal (16,303 people or 4.7%)
In combination these five ancestries account for 380,446 responses in total, or 109.77% of all responses.
The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Central Coast Council area and Gosford - West Gosford were:
- A larger percentage of people with Australian ancestry (39.9% compared to 27.6%)
