Recent arrivals - Occupation of employment
In 2011, there were more recent overseas arrivals who worked as professionals in the City of Maroondah than any other occupation.
The City of Maroondah's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which recent arrivals (who are residents) work. The work destination may be in the local area or elsewhere.
The type of work done by recent arrivals is influenced by their age structure, qualifications and migration stream. Many of Australia's recent migrants are skilled arrivals who fill identified skill gaps in particular occupation groups.

An analysis of the jobs held by recent overseas arrivals in City of Maroondah in 2011 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (496 persons or 23.4%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (313 persons or 14.8%)
- Labourers (312 persons or 14.7%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,121 people in total or 53.0% of the employed recent overseas arrivals.
In comparison, Greater Melbourne employed 24.5% in Professionals; 13.7% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 13.7% in Labourers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the recent overseas arriving population of the City of Maroondah and Greater Melbourne were:
- A larger percentage of people employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (14.8% compared to 13.7%)
- A larger percentage of people employed as Labourers (14.7% compared to 13.7%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Sales Workers (7.1% compared to 8.4%)
- A smaller percentage of people employed as Professionals (23.4% compared to 24.5%)
